This pilot study will involve exosomal profiling of a specific subtype of stroke, cancer-related ischemic stroke, in the Singapore population. Although detrimental to health and debilitating to cancer patients, information related to cause, diagnosis and treatment is scant. We are grateful to the reviewers and the funding agency for the opportunity to uncover underlying mechanisms for potential downstream biomarker discovery. The grant is due to start in June 2024 and funding duration is for three years.

Mosaic tile art piece by Karen Crasta entitled “Chromosome in Chaos”. Chromothripsis (Greek, chromo for chromosome; thripsis, shattering
into pieces) is a mutational phenomenon where chromosome shattering leads to genome chaos (hodgepodge of colours in background). Broken
chromosome fragments with free ends (white bead-like structures with red ends) are rejoined haphazardly to form a massively-rearranged
chromosome.

Yet another fantastic Annual Frontiers in Cancer Science (FCS) Meeting this year! What a priviledge to attend with the very best local and international Cancer experts as always. Plus registration was FREE this year! Loved the talks by peeps I first met at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Rani George and Takaomi Sanda... and the introduction to breast pathology by Dr. Puay Hoon Tan. Was great to see Ashok Venkitaraman, new Director at NUS Cancer Science Institute (CSI), give the opening address.

- July 2020 PAPER ACCEPTED!
Bryan Lim and Karen Crasta contributed to work from A/P Yunn Hwen Gan's laboratory at NUS YLLSOM, Dept of Biochemistry. The work described a novel pathway for micronuclei-mediated cGAS-STING pathway in bacterial pathogenesis. Yet another cool role for micronuclei! Working with Joanne and Yunn was really enjoyable and discussions intellectually-stimulating! Thanks for the invitation to collaborate!

We're missing the AACR Annual Meeting (the largest, most educational and informative cancer conference in the world!) for the first time in years. Chuffed that the organisers made it easy to attend online though - THANK YOU AACR !
As usual fantastic talks by awesome cancer scientists and oncologists!

April-July 2020 COVID! Lab shutdown :-(
(Singapore Circuit Breaker)
So our plans to move to NUS have been delayed again. This time foiled big-time by a tiny virus! Experiments have been literally "put in cold storage" as the lab will be shut down.
Will miss you, Lab Bench! See you in a few months while we stay safe at home....
A special shout-out and THANK YOU to all healthcare professionals and friends working so hard 💖www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGKFVMgjrPc

Stay tuned for the move! 🥂
